He has remained silent regarding the abduction of 252 Venezuelan migrants in El Salvador and 31 children in the U.S.
On Monday, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro sharply criticized United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk, accusing him of acting as a political operative for Western imperialism.

The Bolivarian leader recalled that Türk has remained silent regarding the abduction of 252 Venezuelan migrants in El Salvador and 31 children in the United States, despite Venezuela having informed the UN official about both incidents directly.
“Volker Türk does nothing because he is an agent of the U.S. government and imperialist, colonialist Europe at the United Nations,” Maduro said, visibly angered.
Speaking during his television program “Con Maduro +,” the Venezuelan president said he had spoken with Türk and sent him an official letter requesting his immediate intervention as soon as he became aware of those arbitrary and unjustified detentions.
Türk, however, responded evasively and promised to carry out the necessary efforts in Washington, but ultimately took no action, Maduro said, pointing out that Türk’s conduct is evidence that the United Nations has lost legitimacy in the eyes of the world’s oppressed peoples.
“Who can appeal to you at the United Nations? Türk is there to protect the interests of the West and to remain silent in the face of genocides in Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen,” Maduro said.
Previously, on Saturday, hundreds of people gathered in Paris’ Human Rights Square to demand the immediate release of the migrants unlawfully detained in El Salvador. The protest highlighted growing global concern over the outsourcing of U.S. immigration enforcement to Central American countries.
